MISCONCEPTIONS

The most common misconception about dogs that are up for adoption is that they are unwanted: crazy, sick or old... There are many reasons that dogs or cats lose their homes. And most of them are not the animal's fault. In fact, it's usually the owner's failure to obedience train or deal with life changes. Some of these changes might include changes in a work schedule, lifestyle, a new baby comes home, relocating to a place where pets aren't allowed, allergies, prospective spouse doesn't like pets; among others.

Ex-owners had unrealistic expectations of pet ownership. Please help us re-home these dogs or visit your local shelters to find out how you can help others.

MAX: His foster home is Housepetmagazine.com. I will show MAX in Union Square PETCO, JUNE 25 2008 between 6-9 PM. IF INTERESTED PLEASE STOP BY or email asliayata@gmail.com to make an appointment to meet beautiful Max.

Max is the perfect companion for someone who is looking for "that amazing dog"! He is very quiet and calm at home, content to lie quietly by your side. But once he's outside, he becomes a playful goof with a big smile on his face! He loves taking walks and going running in the park. 100% house broken. He loves belly rubs, children, cats and all dogs. Even with the aggressive ones, he just turns the other cheek -- he doesn't have an ounce of aggression in him. He never barks and he is never scared of loud noises or objects such as bikes, skate boards, thinderstorms and etc. It's hard to believe he's homeless because it's easy to tell that he was socialized and raised well (possibly with kids because he loves children and is very gentle with them). So if you're looking for a truly special canine companion, look no further!

We are looking for a new foster home for MAX. For more information on how to adopt or foster MAX, email asliayata@gmail.com

MAX will be neutered and microchipped very soon. He is up-to-date with his shots.

SAL is a 5 month old male pitbull/Basset Hound mix, and he's terribly cute!  Emelinda found him as a stray in the South Bronx, but his days of hardship are now over, and boy, is he grateful!  All he wants is to love and kiss anyone in his path - he's great with all people, children and other dogs.  Sal has all of his shots, is microchipped, and will be neutered soon.   Copper is a one year old male pit mix. He is very playful and energetic, and is friendly with everyone, including other dogs. His foster mom says he is also very intelligent and loves to chew, fetch and run. If you're looking for a running buddy, he's your man! Copper is housebroken, has all of his shots, and is neutered and microchipped.

Daisy is a 10 month old female pit mix. A pretty name for a very pretty girl! She is all wags, licks and wiggles with people of all ages, but she needs to be the only dog in the house. Daisy has all of her shots, and is spayed and microchipped.   Apache is a 1 year old male pit mix.  Apache is a friendly, playful guy who loves belly rubs, and people and other dogs of all sizes and ages.  However, because of his high energy level, we're looking for a home for him with a back yard.  Can you give this lovable guy the attention and exercise that he needs?  If so, he will make you an excellent companion!  Apache has all of his shots, and is neutered and microchipped.

Charile is approximately 7 years old, and he's a Chihuahua mix (whatever the other half of the mix is, your guess is probably as good as ours!).  Charlie is a loving, friendly guy who, for some reason, found himself wandering around 1st Avenue in Manhattan with no identification, and some nasty bite marks in those big beautiful ears.  But now that he's with us, his roaming days are over.  He's shown us that all he needs in life is some kindness and TLC, and he will be your devoted companion until the end of his days.  Who could pass up this diamond in the rough?  Charlie has all of his shots, and will be neutered and microchipped soon.   Melanie is a 1 1/2 year-old, female mastiff mix. We're looking for a home with a backyard for her since she's a big girl and will get bigger. She's gentle, great with children, and very affectionate. All she wants is your love! If Melanie is the right dog for you, please call Emelinda Narvaez or email us. Melanie is spayed, has all of her shots, and is microchipped.

Peaches is a 4 year old female Rottweiler. She was quite thin when we rescued her from the CACC, but as you can see, she has filled out nicely! Peaches is just a big, lovable mush who very much wants a forever home; she is good with cats, other dogs, and people of all ages. Could your home be hers? She has all of her shots, and is spayed and microchipped.   Skipper is a 2 year old male shepherd mix. Skipper is a very special dog: he may seem a bit shy at first, but in fact, he’s the perfect gentleman with the kindest, gentlest disposition you could ask for. All he wants is another gentleman (or gentlewoman!) to open their home to him. Skipper has all of his shots, and is neutered and microchipped.

Butter is a 3 year old, female pit mix. Like so many of our pitbulls, she came to us from the CACC, where she was about to be put down. She's a total love, very sweet with people of all ages, but she needs to be the only dog in the house. She has all of her shots, and is spayed and microchipped.

Cassie is an 8 month old, female American Bulldog. She came to us from the CACC. Cassie is a bright, energetic girl - she's done some work with one of our trainers, and learns her commands very quickly. Could you give her a forever home? Cassie has all of her shots, and is spayed and microchipped.

Bella is a 1-1/2 year old, female pitbull mix. She was found as a stray in Brooklyn. Bella is a beautiful girl with a big heart: she is good with people of all ages, and even with cats! Can you open your heart to her? Bella has all her shots, and is spayed and microchipped.

Coco is a 8-9 month old pitbull mix who was rescued from the CACC. She is a bright, energetic girl who loves to run and is good with other dogs. She has already mastered her "sit" command ... although she seems to "remember" it better if you have a treat in hand! We are looking for a home with a yard for this special girl, so she can have room to run. Coco has all her shots, and is spayed and microchipped.

Tiffany is a 3 year old female pit mix. She came to us from the New York CACC. Tiffany is very curious, loves people, and has learned her 'sit' command very well! However, she does need to be the only dog in the house. Tiffany has all her shots, and is spayed and micro-chipped.   Zeus is a 3 year old male bull mastiff. He’s a very handsome boy with eyes that will melt your heart, and once he gets to know you, he will make a very loving and protective companion. He loves to have his belly rubbed! Given his size, he should go to a home without small children, and to either a large apartment near a park, or a house with a yard. He also needs to be the only dog in the home. Zeus has all of his shots, and is neutered and microchipped.

"Dogs are our link to paradise. They don't know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring-- it was peace." ~ Milan Kundera

Earth Angels is a 501(c)(3) non-profit canine rescue and adoption organization established five years ago to rescue homeless and abandoned dogs from the New York City streets. 90% of the dogs we rescue are from the South Bronx. Earth Angels was founded by Emelinda Narvaez, a New Yorker with a big heart, determined to make a difference in the lives of the many mistreated dogs she witnessed. Driven by compassion and a deep love for our four legged friends, Emelinda has been rescuing dogs for over 41 years.

EARTH ANGELS IS A NO-KILL RESCUE GROUP. Earth Angels welcomes animals that others write off as too sick, too old, too ugly, or too unmanageable . We spay/neuter, vaccinate, de-worm, and micro-chip all our dogs as well as providing medical attention when needed. We rehabilitate our dogs by using behavioral training and giving them lots of love to restore their faith in human beings. To date, we have rescued over 5,000 dogs and placed them in loving and responsible homes. And, with your kind help, we will do more.

Each day, healthy and well-behaved dogs and cats are unfairly abandoned due to their owner's failure to uphold their responsibility. So, if you're thinking of making an addition to your family, please visit your local shelter, rescue organization, humane society or or veterinarian to find companion animals in need of a loving family. With the popularity of buying puppies over the internet, new problems are also rising. A responsible breeder would not sell her puppies to strangers and ship them. Please meet your breeder in person and observe the surroundings. You can also find a breed-specific rescue group near you.

<< Glenny and Chelsea

"I rescued beautiful Chelsea from Mid Atlantic English Springer Rescue this past September. At 14 years old, the only family she ever knew dropped her off at the vet for her to be euthanized because they were getting a divorce and neither wanted to take her.

I read the posting on the website with horror and decided to bring this little girl into our home so that we could spoil her to pieces! While making travel arrangements to get Chelsea to us from her foster home some 5 hours away, a very generous volunteer of the MAESSR organization volunteered to fly Chelsea to us on his private plane.

Chelsea seemed sad and depressed when she came to us, but now is the light of our lives. She gets plenty of love and attention, ear and belly rubs. We've been able to put a little meat on her bones that was likely lost due to worrying about the dreadful turns her life almost took. She is living the life of Riley and we are lucky to have her in our home and our lives! Everyone is invited to a big party at our house on May 3rd when Chelsea will turn 15 years old!"

<< Rissy and Janell

"Rissy became a resident of an animal shelter when she was picked up as a stray. Six weeks went by and it became clear that the person she belonged to did not care to have her back. I arranged a meeting between my husband and Rissy and she did not let me down. Her sweet personality and clownish antics won his heart and we took her home. Rissy is the most awesome dog. She quickly learned to do agility, flyball, rally-o, and we are currently learning freestyle and clicker. We spend many hours walking in the woods and she also goes kayaking with me, swimming along side the boat. I cannot imagine my life without her...she is truly a blessing!"

<< Levi and Shannah

"I found Levi through an organization that rescued dogs and trained them to be service dogs. I really liked the idea of training the dogs who needed homes instead of breeding new ones to be service dogs. So I fostered him and helped train him. I fell in love with Levi right away. He didn't end up becoming a service dog but he sure did help me through a hard time. I don't know what I would do without him. He makes me very happy. I volunteer walking dogs at the shelter because it breaks my heart to think dogs like my Levi are homeless. Every dog I work with has a good heart."
